Missing Salinas Valley in March

There are two times each year when the Central Coast of California, from whence I hail, is at its absolute best: March/April and September/October. March is my favorite time in the valleys that line the coast for one major reason: lupine.

In March, these flowers bloom and cover the hills around where I grew up. It is breathtaking. People from all over come and line the pastures, painting. The hills are so green it's shocking, and then there's these patches of blue all over, as if bits of sky had fallen and come to rest on the grass.

I miss home. I love Sacramento, but it has nowhere near the wild, natural beauty of the Central Coast. The land "full of sun and loveliness" as Steinbeck would say...
